Coronavirus Update:
Severns Valley Baptist Church will NOT have any On-Campus: Worship Services, Programs, Activities, and Events until further notice.

Dear Severns Valley Family,

We sure are missing our Church Family! Not being able to see one another and hug one another is difficult for us and we know it is for you as well. We are learning a lot about how much worshipping together, having community with one another and visibly and physically being together means to each of us. Many times, we take things for granted in our lives. It’s times like these we realize just how important some things in life really are. This is one thing we can take away from the COVID-19 outbreak, gathering together is a great blessing.

Because of the continued rise in numbers of people contracting COVID-19, the Church Council and Staff believe we need to continue to follow the leadership of our President, State and Local officials, along with Health officials to not gather together in order to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, Severns Valley Baptist Church will NOT have any On-Campus: Worship Services, Programs, Activities, and Events until further notice.

We want to care for our church family in all respects, including the physical well-being of our community. To that end, we are asking you, our members, to take precautions to keep yourself and others safe, especially in light of recent developments with the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Please help stop the spread of the virus in the following ways as per advisement by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Last weekend was most likely the highest amount of traffic and number of churches providing services online. This has become the new normal for churches during COVID-19. We are very thankful for this technology so we can gather together for worship all over the world. Last week we had over 11,000 people view our Online Service worldwide. No joke! 11,000+ people all over the world including 3 countries. This number doesn’t include those who watched and listened to us on Local Cable and Radio.

To watch or listen to Sunday services live at 9 & 10:45am on:

To protect us from and prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are establishing today, work at home plans for our Church Staff. We will continue to keep the office open from 9am – 5pm, Monday thru Friday. We will be rotating staff to be at the office throughout the week to provide times for us to plan, meet and prepare. Please call the office before you come to make sure the person(s) you need to see are in the office.

We are continuing to monitor the ramifications of this outbreak. We know it is affecting: businesses, employers, employees, Medical personnel, First Responders, School Teachers, parents, children, Sr. Adults, those who are in assisted living, etc. We are asking all Small Group Leaders to reach out to those in their classes. We are contacting all of our members who are homebound and those who are in assisted living centers.

We ask each and every member to be mindful of all the people in all of your relationship circles: family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Take a minute during the day and check on them. Ask them how they are doing, feeling, how you can help and ask them how you can pray for them. Be open and sensitive to opportunities to serve them.

We are looking into ways we can help continuing to meet together via technology. Very soon our SVkids, SVstudents and SVadults Ministries will be sharing with leadership possible ways we can continue to meet virtually. It’s not the preferred way, but it is a way we can continue to have community, discipleship and encouragement while we can’t meet together.

Lastly, we want to thank each of you who have continued to financially support Severns Valley Baptist Church. Your consistent giving helps us to meet financial obligations and provide services like: utilities, debt payments, online worship services, upkeep of our buildings, payroll for our staff and sending of monies to local, state, national and international ministries and missionaries.

This past week our total offerings were approximately ½ of our projected budget needs. Needless to say, we need your consistent financial support during this crisis. Last night Matt Hess and Jeff Wilson taught the Core Class, I Will. We planned the weekly teaching topics in January of this year, not knowing we would be “doing church” much differently at that time. Last night’s Core Class topic was: “I Will – Give Generously.” You can view the video of this class here: I Will – Give Generously. We don’t think that was a coincidence. God knew exactly what we would be going through at this time. He knew we needed to hear about how we are to be “Generous” people in all circumstances and situations, including our finances. We encourage you to give generously, faithfully, happily and sacrificially to your church. Below are ways you can give to Severns Valley:

  • Bring your tithes/offerings to the church
  • Mail your tithes/offerings to the church
  • Give online:
  • Texting: Text, SVBC + amount to 73256

In Romans 5:1-5, Paul gives some very encouraging words to his friends in Rome. Let’s be encouraged by them today.

1 Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have also obtained access through him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

These verses give us assurance:

  • We have peace, because we know God is in control and we can trust Him.
  • We have hope, because Jesus is our hope and He never, ever, will disappoint us.

These verses challenge us:

  • We should rejoice during difficult times.
  • Difficult times (afflictions) help us grow to become more dependent on Jesus and conform us into His image.
  • Afflictions Produce Endurance à Endurance Produces Proven Character à Proven Character Produces Hope

Let us be People of Hope to others who don’t know Jesus, by the way we are living during these crazy, challenging, disconcerting days.

In Christ,

Your Church Council and Staff
