Spring Break '15 - Mission E-town
Three things are always true during Spring Break in Elizabethtown, KY.
1. Teenagers are out of school.
2. The sun is starting to shine.
3. Countless number of people are hurting and need to know the love of Christ.
There was no way that the Student Ministry at Severns Valley was going to miss this opportunity that was staring them in the face.
Students arrived early at the church on the first day of their Spring Break and leaders took them to meet the needs of people all over E-town. Elderly women, widows, single moms, and military wives whose husbands are deployed were the main focus of Mission E-town. Students got to help paint houses, learn how to lay grass seed, rake musty old leaves, trim bushes, and clean up the inside of homes. The students of Severns Valley were determined to give up the first day of their Spring Break in order to show people that there is a God in heaven who cares deeply for them.
Mission E-town not only teaches our students how to serve others in the name of Jesus, but also blesses many people within our church. One lady responded by sending a card to the teenagers thanking them for showing love to the “older” church members. This card touches on a topic of how the church of the Lord Jesus Christ should treat one another. Older members should love and mentor younger members. Younger members should cherish and honor older members. This is a beautiful picture of how Jesus Christ unites people of all ages to a common mission of Loving God and Loving People.
The students of Severns Valley look forward to the next opportunity where they can be on mission for Jesus right here in Elizabethtown, KY.
Mission E-town is a way to fulfill the great commission to our own “Jerusalem.”
God is first calling us HERE.
